D’Light Run / Mile Walk Goes Virtual

In the midst of the changes that we are all experiencing, we have Great News!  The D’Light Run has gone virtual!  While we are not able to gather to celebrate the life of Demetrius Smith in person, we can still honor the legacy that has been created over the past 12 years.

The D’Light Run has provided scholarship support to students at Cleveland Montessori through the Demetrius Smith Scholarship Fund.  This virtual event will raise much needed scholarship funding for the school as well as supporting our first responders at the 3rd District Police Department, including D’s parents.  In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, participants will receive a colorful face mask.  For each registration, a face mask will also be donated to the 3rd District Police Department, in thanks for their service to the city and support of our event every year.

So, we invite you to join our virtual run and register today.

How does a virtual run/walk work?

Register on-line.

Go out to walk/run on your own or with your family. (Past participants wear your D’Light t-shirts!)

Take photos of you having fun on your walk/run.

Post your time and distance if you want.

Post your photos to the D’Light website to show your support!

When will the virtual run/walk take place?

The virtual event will kick off on Saturday, May 26 and continue through June!

Face masks will be made by a local seamstress and sent to participants as they are completed.

Donations to the 3rd District will be made at the conclusion of the event.

The event benefits the Demetrius Cameron-Lee Smith Scholarship Fund at Cleveland Montessori.  The fund was created to benefit students deserving a quality education at the school.  To date, over $12,000 in scholarships has been awarded to deserving students at Cleveland Montessori.  Demetrius, known as “D” by those who knew and loved him, was a former student at the Montessori school from age 3 years old to 12 years old. He courageously fought brain cancer from age 2 1/2 and tragically lost his battle in 2008.

The Cleveland Montessori School is a non-profit AMI recognized Montessori school Pre-K – 8th grade located at 12510 Mayfield Road, Little Italy, Cleveland OH.
